Fleeting Feelings

My musing for today.
Earlier I was riding my horse and he uncharacteristically spooked at a deer in the woods and swiftly spun sideways. I was caught off guard but regained center after going with him, not against him thanks to my relaxation and gut/core strength. He very quickly started grazing calmly as soon as he realized he was safe, perhaps once identifying that the threat was just a deer. I didn’t punish him because he is a prey animal and we are all allowed to get startled. I understand and empathize with the nervous system responding automatically and asking questions later once the threat has passed or you remember you’re carrying precious cargo.
It also reminded me of my friend/client’s toddler who was crying over his rocks and within the space of under one minute, his mom redirected his thought and he was focused on another rock and smiling at me then laughing!
This really proves to me that adults can learn so much from this.
Our perseverance over a thought about an experience which is usually based on the past evokes a specific physiological response, often times negative.
Change the thought and the physiology changes and it can happen really quickly if we allow it. I think we lose this ability to feel feelings intensely if necessary at times in worry that it may be permanent, but feelings and thoughts are so fleeting if we simply allow them to flow through us without so much attachment.
The art of spooking, farting 💨 , spinning, breathing and grounding back to safety, eating, then carrying on peacefully about the day enjoying oneself, trusting your gut to realign you even when you get thrown off balance.
Gratitude by far has the most transformative effect on my physiology and is the best lens to view my life through.
Gratitude and Love for me go hand in hand 🙏🏽
